Stay near the city centre or Peace Park area — it puts you within walking distance of the main sights and the tram lines that connect everything else. The Best Area to Stay
City Centre / Peace Park Area — Our Recommendation
The sweet spot: walking distance to the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, easy access to the tram lines that connect the station, Okonomimura, and Miyajima ferry, and the right concentration of restaurants for easy evenings. The Peace Park area is calm and green; the city centre just east is lively and fully equipped for dining.

Near Hiroshima Station
The area around Hiroshima Station has plenty of accommodation at lower price points — convenient for early Shinkansen arrivals and departures, and the tram from the station to the Peace Park is straightforward (15–20 minutes). Slightly less atmospheric in the evenings than the city centre area, but entirely practical for a 2-day stay.
Where We Stayed: Hotel Intergate Hiroshima ★★★★
Hotel Intergate Hiroshima was one of our best hotel experiences of the Japan trip. Everything the guide says is accurate: comfortable rooms, spotless bathrooms (which in Japan means flawlessly spotless, which is a different category of clean than anywhere else), and service that was genuinely warm rather than just efficient.
The standout feature: the lounge area with free snacks and drinks — available to guests in the evening. Beer, soft drinks, small snacks, a comfortable space to decompress. It sounds like a small thing and it is, in the grand scheme. But after a day that includes the Peace Museum and a long walk through the city, having somewhere pleasant to sit and process things without going out to a restaurant is exactly right.
Location: City centre, walking distance to the Peace Park and tram lines. The Miyajima day trip connection is easy from here.
Best for: Most visitors to Hiroshima — especially those for whom the Peace Museum visit is a central experience and who want a comfortable, well-positioned base without paying luxury prices.
Book early: Hotel Intergate Hiroshima is popular and fills up, particularly around the August 6 anniversary and spring cherry blossom season.
Miyajima Overnight Option
The guide notes: "staying overnight there would also be magical." This is worth considering if Miyajima is a priority. The island has a handful of traditional Japanese inns (ryokan) that offer dinner and breakfast — the experience of being on the island after the day-trippers leave, with the torii gate lantern-lit in the evening and the approach street completely quiet, is completely different from the day-trip version. If budget allows, one night on Miyajima and one in Hiroshima city gives you both experiences.
