Day 1 (Afternoon Arrival): Cheomseongdae, Daereungwon, Donggung Palace
We took the 2pm KTX from Seoul Station, arriving into Singyeongju around 4pm, then a short taxi to our hotel on Hwangnidan-gil.
Late afternoon: Check in, then walk to Cheomseongdae and Daereungwon — both 5-10 minutes away, and easy to explore before dinner.
Dinner: On Hwangnidan-gil — we'd recommend Nordic (arrive early for the queue) or Godore for a more local atmosphere.
Evening: Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond, a 14-minute walk from the hotel — go specifically for the night lighting. This was our favourite single sight in Gyeongju.
Day 2: Bulguksa/Seokguram Tour, Free Afternoon, On to Busan
Early morning: Breakfast, then hotel pickup for the Tour Ryan UNESCO Highlights tour, covering Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto (~4.5 hours).
Midday: Dropped back at the hotel around noon.
Lunch: On Hwangnidan-gil.
Afternoon: Choose between Yangdong Village (more active, ~25-minute taxi) or the calmer National Museum + Woljeonggyo Bridge + Gyochon walk, depending on energy levels after the morning tour.
Late afternoon: Taxi to Busan (~1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes), checking into our Haeundae hotel by early evening.

Would We Change Anything?
If we had a full extra day, we'd have liked to do both the Yangdong Village afternoon and the calmer museum route rather than choosing one — but as a quick stop between Seoul and Busan, a day and a half genuinely worked well.
