What Busan Actually Is
Busan is South Korea's second-largest city, built around the ocean in a way that makes it feel completely different from Seoul. We stayed in Haeundae, a cosmopolitan neighbourhood two minutes' walk from the country's most famous beach. Everything here feels a little slower, a little calmer, but still full of life. Why It's Worth Visiting
It's the kind of place where you can go from beaches and coastal walks to colourful hillside villages, busy fish markets, and excellent food all in the same day. Gamcheon Culture Village, the colourful houses stacked up a hillside, was the most photogenic single spot of the whole Korea trip. Haedong Yonggungsa, a Buddhist temple built directly on the coastline, is one of the few of its kind in the country and one of the most memorable experiences we had in Busan.
The food is a big part of the appeal too — fresh seafood, street food, and markets like Jagalchi (Korea's largest fish market) where you pick your fish and eat it on the spot.

The Honest Comparison to Seoul
Busan feels less hectic than Seoul but still has enormous personality. If Seoul is where we'd go for food obsession and modern energy, Busan is where we'd go to slow down without giving up good food or interesting things to do. Don't treat it as a lesser stop on your Korea itinerary — it deserves real time of its own.
