Why Haedong Yonggungsa Stands Out
Most of Korea's significant Buddhist temples are inland, often in mountain settings — Haedong Yonggungsa is different. Built directly on Busan's rocky coastline, it's one of the only temples of its kind in the country, and the combination of traditional temple architecture with crashing waves right below it makes for a genuinely unique atmosphere compared to anywhere else we visited in Korea.
It's not covered by most standard day tours, which is exactly why we'd call it worth carving out separate time for — we visited on a free morning before heading to the airport, and it was one of the most memorable stops of our whole Busan stay.
